"Language is a virus from outer space."
                                                     William S. Burroughs
I have always been fascinated with language, especially written language, most of it indecipherable to my Western eye.
Accepting the premise that words are thoughts and thoughts are words, then my “Twisted Metal” image-poems are composed of “thoughtless words” in a language of their own. Rather than interpreting each poem line by line, I have instead, distilled the meaning, gist or essence of each image-poem. That meaning, gist or essence is reflected within the title of each of them. Of course, with each image-poem it is entirely up to the viewer to translate and ascertain the essence.

Over the past several months I have been photographing spirals of various types ranging from metal shavings, ripped away notebook bindings, paper curls and even snake skins. I’m intrigued with how a simple turn or flip of the object can change the meaning or inherent message of the image. I intend to continue shooting this subject matter until it tells me to stop.
