Sometimes it’s hard to explain why I create what I create. This summer I found myself creating much more bright colored, wild and almost psychedelic patterned gourds.
Perhaps it was the intense heat of this past summer, or the stress of living in such a messed up world… Or maybe it’s just an aging thing – reflecting more and more on romanticized memories of a ‘better’ or a more simple time, a nostalgia thing…
And perhaps another possibility is my dreams from last summer. I usually have difficulty remembering my dreams when I wake, but in my quiet, focused moments while working on my gourds or in my gardens, I will receive vague glimpses of my previous night’s dreams. This summer, these glimpses were most often of people and places of my later high school years in the early 1970’s, but so vague they were more feelings than images. So, perhaps…
